There was a lot of it. As I told Jen, it was a hair massacre! Pictures of what came off under the cut, though none of my snazzy new 'do because I roll sideways and don't do pictures of me online. Suffice it to say I really like it. My hair's too thick to have it look exactly like Hannah's but, I really like it. And I can wear hats! (I am wearing one now and I look ~good~)
Everyone at church tonight was awesome and loved it too.

scaring images! HAIR! Dead hair! Everywhere! Needless violence against hair! )

Yet another rec, I'm sorry, but I just can't help it.
Running Up That Hill
713 Coda - Gen - Sam & Dean - The days that Sam doesn’t go running are the bad days. The day after Emma is a bad day.
;________; Dean's inner voice will break your heart, and poor Sam is quite beleaguered too.

But holy shit, this fic has got one of the most amazing, coolest, most badass apocalyptic showdown...ever. Like, I've read a lot of fic, and a lot in this particular genre, but this is so cool I just cannot deal. The final showdown is so epic, like, literally. And you don't even realize the awesomeness that's slotting into place until it's there...and then that ending(to the apocalypse).
Seriously. The only other thing I can compare it to is Named, and even then, their awesomenesses are in two different hemispheres.
GO READ IT.

Title: Dies Irae, or Something
Author: Alchemy Alice
Rating: PG-13
Total Word Count: ~50,000
Genre and/or Pairing: Action/Adventure/Romance! Dean/Castiel, Sam/Gabriel, Michael
Spoilers: Season 5 up to Episode 10.
Warnings: Apocalyptic violence, slash (obvi), multitudinous references to Biblical events that are then misused with blatant disregard for accuracy. Also, Good Omens references, and hella bad language. In other words, fun for all!
Summary: It starts with headaches, and it ends in a clusterfuck. So, business as usual, Apocalypse-wise.

Since I'm telling people what to do now, apparently, go vote for Dean/Cas at the now-infamous poll!

And if so, are you aware of Darcy/Clint fic? This is a long shot in the big dark night, but, hey, I figured I'd ask. Somehow I stumbled into [personal profile] smittywing's awesome Not Your Mother's Alma Mater WIP(I KNOW WHAT AM I DOING I JUST WHAAAAAAT WHY ALL THE WIPS) and I want to read more of them, because, apparently, they hit my nerdy girl/sweet guy love just right. Vaguely they remind me of Chuck/Becky and maybe Elizabeth/Rodney, though their dynamic was reverse.

Apparently this also cements the fact that I still like het. And I still like het exclusively sometimes, because while I can appreciate some of the Tony/Steve stuff, slash in this particular verse isn't my cuppa. Give me Tony/Pepper, Thor/Jane, Steve/Peggy and now apparently Darcy/Clint (ngl Natasha/Clint sounds good too). So I've still got my het-cred, apparently.

ANYWAYS. People into or even aware of Marvel's movie-verse; recs, comms, places to find more het fic? Hit me!

(also I really want to install my Alec moodtheme on LJ, but...I really, really like my A/G one, too, even if it hasn't been updated in years...just, staring at young!Jensen every time I post is really nice XD)

Gooo, you know you want to! I'll be signing up as a artist tomorrow or this weekend, depending on when I get time to make my brain work again.

Inexorable Gravity by [livejournal.com profile] lexicale
NC-17: Canon-AU, Dean/Jo/Sam(though, I'd say it's more of an R than NC-17)
Dean grew up looking after Sam and Jo. Jo may not be related to him, but she's still kind of his little sister, and he's not sure what's worse: that he's attracted to her anyways, or that he's attracted to Sam.

ALL THE HEARTS IN MY EYES FOR A RATIONAL, IN-DEPTH EXPLORATION OF THIS PAIRING OMG. It starts out Dean/Jo, admittedly, but it's the three of them, undeniably in love with each other and undeniably themselves, that makes it so fantastic. It's AU in that the Winchesters actually grow up with the Harvelles and they stay in contact even through Bill's untimely demise, but it utilizes canon incredibly effectively, and still gives you the characters as they should be, with believable changes brought on by their different lives. Dean is especially awesome. ♥

Goooo, read it. Be amazed. Wish there was more of this kind of fic in fandom. *shoos*

PAY IT FORWARD 2012

My pledge? I promise to make something handmade for the first 5 people who comment on this post. The catch? You must then post this on your own LJ/DW/FB/Twitter/Tumblr (wherever you like) and make something for the first 5 people who comment on it.

The rules? Items must be handmade* by you and the recipients must receive them before the end of 2012. So what are you waiting for?

*when it says handmade, it doesn't have to be anything major like a chest of drawers. It can be anything as simple as some graphics or fic (if you don't want to give out your address), or a card, or origami, crafts, sewing, knitting, food related, anything at all.

Because I'm really not into actual RL handmade stuff...fics and graphics, basically. Yes, this is pretty much only in the spirit of the meme. But, y'know, it's all good. So, hit me!

First five comments on LJ and the first five on DW, so if you have a DW account or an openID and want to comment over here, it's open on both sides.

If I ship it, I'll write it. Also, gen! My tags have a good list of what I ship, though I'm sure most of you are aware of what I read and write. Though I can't promise how good I'll be at slash, since I write primarily het, but, hey, I'll give it a go. For graphics, you can request anything under the sun.

ETA: The comment counts do not accurately reflect the number of claims. I got attacked by a wild flying Jen-monkey.

Notes: This is my first erasure, so I hope I did the awesomeness of the genre justice. It's short, but hopefully gets the point across. I only took the first portion of the original fic and erased it, because that's what felt right. The headings are my own additions, but that's just to differentiate between the two sections.

So, I should know better than to a) get attached to minor characters who die and b) go in search of fic about those characters. Because they will hurt my heart even more. See the two fics below about one Gwen Campbell;

Fate, Tall, Delayed by [livejournal.com profile] animus_wyrmis
Gwen is a Campbell, first and always.
Ugh, Gweeeeeen. Basically a story of how everything that touches hunting crashes and burns and dies in a horrible fiery way. And a fantastic look at life outside of the Winchesters, outside of their own insulated battle for the world, a look at what it's like to fight for the everyman and lose and lose people and move on and lose faith. So pretty, but also heartbreaking. OH HEY, SHOW, WHY IS GWEN DEAD? WHY DID YOU GIVE US THIS FANTASTIC CAMPBELL CONNECTION AND THEN KILL THEM ALL!?

Brass Ceiling by [livejournal.com profile] kalliel
Hunting is the difference between skipping town because the rent's overdue and skipping town because there's a werewolf two states over. It's the difference between being a murderer and being a big damn hero. Gwen and hers have got it coming, and there is no getting out--only strapping in.
Outsider POV, the things you do to me. And outsider POV of hunting? EVEN MORE FANTASTIC. A little tough to get into, but once you're in, it's like you're sucked in (hm, much like hunting, no?) and the story is going places with or without you. Another fantastic look at life outside the Winchester's very isolated POV, what it's like to be a normal hunter. And what it's like to have your own issues and your own problems that brought you where you are. And what it's like to tell a story without saying anything much at all.
Basically, ALL MY HEARTS IN MY EYES.

You want even more drama? LISTEN TO THIS WHILE READING! It's all mournful and violiny and it owns my soul. Star Wars and string instruments and I would listen to VSQ for FOREVER.

[livejournal.com profile] proverbsun, you're the first person I thought of when this came on. :D
majorshipper: (➘ home of the best cookies ever)
How fast are y'all at typing? Are you more of a touch-typist or do you have to look at what you're doing or are you just more of a hunt-n-peck kinda person?

I've always assumed that people who use the internet competently(i.e. competent enough to have a functioning LJ, lol) are pretty good typists, but someone pointed out to me that a lot of people these days can't type without watching their hands.

Personally I type a good solid 60wpm on Mavis Beacon without looking, but I developed that from when I was a kid and I'd spend hours and hours goofing off with writing and playing with HTML while watching what I was doing, so as time passed, I just muscle-memorized which letters were which, and it's stuck.

Random factlet; my mum says she could type 90wpm on the old-fashioned typewriters back in the day(since she was a medical transcriptionist, this was kinda necessary), which has me bowing in awe, because while those typewriters are fun as heck to use, they're a lot harder than computer keyboards to deal with.

Also! I wrote 1500 words of possibly incoherent fic about Lisa stumbling into Sam and Dean's next hunt and walking away...unchanged. Because someone told me it needed to be written. Maybe I'm finally catching that writing disease where it becomes hard to write less than 500w? Lord knows it's about time.
(For those who don't know; back when I was doing a ton of stuff in Merlin fandom, I often bemoaned the fact that I couldn't seem to write anything over a thousand words to save my life)

On a whim, I decided to get an account at AO3. I like it, even if it takes a heck of a lot of getting used to, and, of course, it's nothing like LJ.
I'm kinda surprised I caved, especially after saying never ever again after FF.net. But, I'm pleasantly shocked to see that the handful of fics I've got copied from [livejournal.com profile] junerayne already have quite a few hits and some kudos.
So! I can be found here, and I hope to start crossposting everything to LJ and there.

On a side note, does anyone know the code for making a AO3 user on LJ?

Aaaand. Doctor Who. I know everyone else who knows who Neil Gaiman is is probably thrilled at this turn of events, but...I dunno. It was a good episode and is a great return to my idea of Doctor Who standards, but bits of it really bug the heck out of me and make it feel like another show trying to be Doctor Who but without knowing much of anything about Doctor Who. IDK. It bugs me.

I have little to say, other than I finished my tags reorganization..thing. It's a bit amusing to me. I went from 600+ tags to about 150, and it still feels like a ton of tags...at least it's a bit prettier! I think...LOL

Oh! I posted another Doctor Who fic, and it's one I'm rather ridiculously proud of...considering it's the first time I've written TenII OR Fluff/Non-angst in the DW 'verse. And it's not horribly bad, judging from the comments I've gotten.
Yeah, that's basically me doing some anti-whining, but heyy...I think I have a right. I had just finished reading [livejournal.com profile] professor_spork 's wonderful Feeling Electric 'verse fics. (HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE COMIC BOOKS+ DOCTOR/ROSE?), and I was feeling like a rather bad writer in comparison...I was pretty :(-ey, but I was half-way asleep when this idea whapped me upside the head and I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep till I wrote it...so I did. And unlike all my other 2AM story ideas, it's not completely ~out there!
So proud. XP

And now for a meme;
Day 10 - A show you thought you wouldn't like but ended up loving

Well, my first reaction to Merlin was skepticism. A cracky take on King Arthur? A British TV show? Needless to say, my opinion not only changed, it changed radically. Now about half my favorite shows are in fact British/cracky-fun. So my opinion was changed quiet a bit in that regards, but there haven't been many shows I didn't like and then did. I generally stick with my first impressions on things, so I don't deal with this much. I'd say there's only one show that I was encouraged forcefully to watch and then ended up falling in love with, and that's Star Trek: Voyager. See, I wasn't really a Star Trek fan. I could appreciate it's place in things and it's role as progenitor of most modern scifi, but that didn't mean I has to love it. 'Course, that's changed, in general, since Voyager and Enterprise and Star Trek XI, but Voyager is what opened my eyes to the fact that it isn't all that bad. Still not quiet as obsessed/in love with it as my brother though. And I still tease huge Star Trek fans.

The days )
