Look what I found on Spotify today! I already own 99% of the songs on the album, but it's awesome looking at it, knowing, hey, these are the songs I grew up with and love. There's no Michael W. Smith, and I'm sad that "Live Out Loud" isn't on there, but I guess repeating an artist(even one who changed CCM and managed to be popular for almost three decades) is a bad idea. There's no Hillsong, but I guess they're...IDK, I don't know why the wouldn't be on it, lol. Hillsong is kinda the definitive praise band.
A large portion of blame for this post goes to
morelenmir who got me listening to "Dive" on a loop.
Songs That Changed the Church - CCM
1. Dive - Stephen Curtis Chapman
2. Shine - Newsboys (lol, this was one of my favorite songs when I was younger; the Newsboys were the it band after DC Talk, I guess. I'm surprised "I Am Free" isn't on here...)
3. Jesus Freak - DC Talk (speaking of DC Talk...)
4. Beautiful, Scandalous Night - Robbie Seay Band
5. Big House - Audio Adrenaline (No lie, I cried when they disbanded)
6. God of Wonders - Rebecca St. James
7. Indescribable - Chris Tomlin
8. You Put This Love In My Heart - Keith Green
9. I Can Only Imagine - Rita Springer (and another of my favorites...though I don't know why it's Rita Springer instead of MercyMe?)
10. Step By Step - Kim Hill
11. Thy Word - Amy Grant
12. Friends - Daniel Doss Band
13. Testify to Love - Avalon
I realize only maybe three people on my flist may care, but I thought it was awesome. I want to check out the "Songs that Changed The Church - Hymns" because I'm in love with classic hymns. :D

Yeah, it is weird that Hillsong isn't there. And (though he's not on there) Michael W. Smith... ♥

Yeah! I mean, Hillsong and Michael W. Smith are more praise/worship oriented, but they're both essential legends when it comes to CCM. I mean, who hasn't heard Shout to The Lord or Place In This World?
Classics.

DUDE.
"Dive" has always been one of my all-time SCC songs, and probably one of my favorite songs, period. Can't help but be lifted up by its message. Actually, this whole list is awesome! Though, it'd be better with some Michael W Smith.

I love SCC. Like, he was one of the defining artists of early CCM. Dive, Live Out Loud, For the Sake of The Call, all the amazing songs he's had. He was like the Chris Tomlin from before Chris Tomlin.
I don't get the lack of Michael W. Smith! I mean, he's more praise/worship than CCM, but he's a legend in all forms of modern Christian music.

Indescribable and God of Wonders!!!! :D (Though I think I know God of Wonders by Third Day I wanna say...? Or maybe it's not the same song :P WHICH REMINDS ME Have you come across this vid for Indescribable...mind blowing!!! LOVE IT! I get goosebumps everytime I see it ♥
I can Only Imagine should TOTALLY be Mercy Me, just saying ;)

Casting Crowns remains one of my favorite bands. I remember when their first CD came out, I wore that thing out. American Dream still makes me asdfljksfjkls
I think God of Wonders has been done by both of them, with popularity on both sides...because I recognize the Rebecca St. James one, but I do for sure remember guys singing it.
That vid. Oh my gosh, that's amazing ♥
IKR? I guess they couldn't get the rights to the MercyMe one, but, still. MercyMe totally is one of the defining bands of CCM.

Hmmmm. I'm not sure I've heard that version before, weird! RIGHT?! Man that's like the perfect vid EVER!! ♥
That song is soooo defining too, I remember it being played on secular radios and being all WHAT WHAT IS THIS?! :)
OH and I just checked out the songs that changed the church-hymns, some of my favorite hymns are on there, it looks awesome!! "Come thou fount of every blessing" ♥ ♥ ♥

Voice of Truth is an amazaing song ♥
Yeah! You know a band's hit it big when they get played by someone other than a christian station.
I love me some hymns. I don't know where it came from, since the church I grew up in was more likely to sing Shout To The Lord than Amazing Grace, but still. My only disappointment with that album was the fact that it didn't have King Of Kings or I'll Fly Away. (And while I'm at it, why was there no Jars of Clay in the CCM one!?)
