There was a lot of it. As I told Jen, it was a hair massacre! Pictures of what came off under the cut, though none of my snazzy new 'do because I roll sideways and don't do pictures of me online. Suffice it to say I really like it. My hair's too thick to have it look exactly like Hannah's but, I really like it. And I can wear hats! (I am wearing one now and I look ~good~)
Everyone at church tonight was awesome and loved it too.

scaring images! HAIR! Dead hair! Everywhere! Needless violence against hair! )

Yet another rec, I'm sorry, but I just can't help it.
Running Up That Hill
713 Coda - Gen - Sam & Dean - The days that Sam doesn’t go running are the bad days. The day after Emma is a bad day.
;________; Dean's inner voice will break your heart, and poor Sam is quite beleaguered too.

But holy shit, this fic has got one of the most amazing, coolest, most badass apocalyptic showdown...ever. Like, I've read a lot of fic, and a lot in this particular genre, but this is so cool I just cannot deal. The final showdown is so epic, like, literally. And you don't even realize the awesomeness that's slotting into place until it's there...and then that ending(to the apocalypse).
Seriously. The only other thing I can compare it to is Named, and even then, their awesomenesses are in two different hemispheres.
GO READ IT.

Title: Dies Irae, or Something
Author: Alchemy Alice
Rating: PG-13
Total Word Count: ~50,000
Genre and/or Pairing: Action/Adventure/Romance! Dean/Castiel, Sam/Gabriel, Michael
Spoilers: Season 5 up to Episode 10.
Warnings: Apocalyptic violence, slash (obvi), multitudinous references to Biblical events that are then misused with blatant disregard for accuracy. Also, Good Omens references, and hella bad language. In other words, fun for all!
Summary: It starts with headaches, and it ends in a clusterfuck. So, business as usual, Apocalypse-wise.

Since I'm telling people what to do now, apparently, go vote for Dean/Cas at the now-infamous poll!
majorshipper: (Text - Dork side)
And if so, are you aware of Darcy/Clint fic? This is a long shot in the big dark night, but, hey, I figured I'd ask. Somehow I stumbled into [personal profile] smittywing's awesome Not Your Mother's Alma Mater WIP(I KNOW WHAT AM I DOING I JUST WHAAAAAAT WHY ALL THE WIPS) and I want to read more of them, because, apparently, they hit my nerdy girl/sweet guy love just right. Vaguely they remind me of Chuck/Becky and maybe Elizabeth/Rodney, though their dynamic was reverse.

Apparently this also cements the fact that I still like het. And I still like het exclusively sometimes, because while I can appreciate some of the Tony/Steve stuff, slash in this particular verse isn't my cuppa. Give me Tony/Pepper, Thor/Jane, Steve/Peggy and now apparently Darcy/Clint (ngl Natasha/Clint sounds good too). So I've still got my het-cred, apparently.

ANYWAYS. People into or even aware of Marvel's movie-verse; recs, comms, places to find more het fic? Hit me!

(also I really want to install my Alec moodtheme on LJ, but...I really, really like my A/G one, too, even if it hasn't been updated in years...just, staring at young!Jensen every time I post is really nice XD)

Inexorable Gravity by [livejournal.com profile] lexicale
NC-17: Canon-AU, Dean/Jo/Sam(though, I'd say it's more of an R than NC-17)
Dean grew up looking after Sam and Jo. Jo may not be related to him, but she's still kind of his little sister, and he's not sure what's worse: that he's attracted to her anyways, or that he's attracted to Sam.

ALL THE HEARTS IN MY EYES FOR A RATIONAL, IN-DEPTH EXPLORATION OF THIS PAIRING OMG. It starts out Dean/Jo, admittedly, but it's the three of them, undeniably in love with each other and undeniably themselves, that makes it so fantastic. It's AU in that the Winchesters actually grow up with the Harvelles and they stay in contact even through Bill's untimely demise, but it utilizes canon incredibly effectively, and still gives you the characters as they should be, with believable changes brought on by their different lives. Dean is especially awesome. ♥

Goooo, read it. Be amazed. Wish there was more of this kind of fic in fandom. *shoos*
majorshipper: (♂ darling don't be afraid)
Basically, it breaks down, in an interesting way, why Dean behaves the way he does to Sam, and, because that's kinda the point of the post, Cas. It's about homophobia in SPN, and why Dean/Cas will never be explorable because of the way the characters are, but, it includes some pretty spot-on stuff about Dean's character in the midst of that, and how he is who he is because of his relationships with John and Sam.

more talking from me, and links, but cut to save your flist )

Something that the OP's reply made me think of; Evil!Cas, or the idea of Cas, the once-righteous angel, turning bad, or doing the wrong things for the right things. It's no secret that I adore twists that reveal my favorite characters to be in fact bad guys, or when a good guy goes bad. I was excited during the first mid-season finale of White Collar at the prospect that final scene brought up(you know the one; hotel room, Kate, and the ring). I was excited during the last episode of Sherlock's first season when Sherlock first sees John at the pool. The very first time I watched my first SPN episode, Lucifer Rising, when I saw one of the main characters, a good guy, or so I assumed from what I'd seen of fandom, when I saw Sam torture the demon and then kill Lilith, effectively going darkside, I thought, Wow, that's brave. That's exciting.. I was excited at the end of Mommy Dearest when we discovered what was going on. It may be a kink of mine. Check that, it probably is. But the fact is, I love it. I love it when good guys go bad, especially if they do the wrong things for the right reasons, if the road they take is the good-intentions path to hell. Which is why, even though my heart was breaking into a million little pieces on the floor, I was actually really excited during the latter half of S6 and 701.
And, I want to know where these stories are. Are writers too afraid to actually take their characters darkside and let them stay there? It's a bold more, it's hard to do, and it does alienate fanbase sometimes, but I think it's one of the coolest things I've seen. They don't even have to make the character permanently bad! They can include a redemption arc, 'cause those are awesome too. But, think about it. How often does that happen? I know it happened in Buffy at some point, right? I only know because I actually considered watching Buffy when I found out But where else does it happen? SPN? Kinda? It's a trope that I don't find enough, be it in shows or in fanfic. And that makes me sad, actually.
EVEN MY MUSIC IS RELEVANT, OMG. Seeing as Walk Away is about the speaker telling his girl to walk away because he's dangerous and will never let her get away from him if she stays, because he's found himself in a bad place. analyzed

But now that I'm inspired on the subject, I'm totally gonna go write that next-gen fic I have promised [livejournal.com profile] lunasky3.

ALSO I JUST REALIZED I STILL HAVE NOT SEEN THE DOCTOR WHO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL. And. I'm not too bothered. I guess I'll have to watch it at some point, though.
majorshipper: (Text - Dork side)
That I can view my entire flist, comms and journals, in a reasonable amount of time. I've stopped watching quite a few comms, and I think it's because pretty much most shows are pretty quite right, now, but, hey, getting back into the swing of fandom is a good thing, right?

OH ALSO. Everyone needs to go read [livejournal.com profile] lunasky3's Mafia!AU Sam/Lucifer fic and [livejournal.com profile] princess_aleera's fic in the same 'verse of Dean being a detective and also kinda a jerk but loving Sam and having to deal with Cas's soul-staring.
YOU KNOW YOU WANNA.

I'm not a huge fan of Loki/[livejournal.com profile] secretlytodream(the vidder) normally, but this vid is simply mind-blowing. It rolls out slow and close and just unfurls into the vastness (and closness) that is all the promises made that couldn't ever be kept, all the words that were said that meant so much, all the lives and deaths they've changed through, and eventually, what remains the same. Just, ugh, all the feelings. Most excellent example of why I love show and why Sam and Dean are just heartbreakingly perfectly sad. It's funny, because I was just explaining to my brother why Supernatural is both the worst and best show I watch. It's the only one I actually participate in fandom in anymore, and I've made tons of amazing friends in it. The mytharc is broad and expansive and amazing without being too complex with some truly stunning writing and creativity. But it's also the worst, because you can see how far it's falling downhill, how much potential exists that isn't ever going to be explored, and that makes it miserable.

ANYWAYS. GUYSSS I READ FIC FOR SHERLOCK. I ONLY READ FIC FOR SPN ANYMORE. IDEK WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME. Sherlock, obvs

Anways. It is sad and even more angst inducing but it gives a fantastic look at John's state of mind, after.

It's gen, and not super long, and it's title is Getting Up.

I think my sore throat is getting better, but it'll probably still be horrible tomorrow. I hate how I get it the week all of school starts up again. I think it's to do with it being that time of month and the fact that I always get sick this time of year. so basically everything's ganging up on me. :/

So I was just scrolling through my flist when [livejournal.com profile] missyjack linked to this post by [livejournal.com profile] hells_half_acre about Irene Adler and why fandom has ~feelings~ about her. The title is Women, Sex, And Power - A Rant, so know that's what you're getting into. But it's still a fantastic look at Irene in BBC's Sherlock.

I got into a very, very interesting discussion with [livejournal.com profile] hells_half_acre in the comments of that entry, and it directed me to these posts of hers, on the subject of Love (and Slash). Both are very, very interesting reads for anyone who gets slash, doesn't get slash, likes slash, likes gen, likes SPN, doesn't like SPN, loves Sherlock, doesn't care about Sherlock...etc. Everyone. She makes some very interesting observations on society's perception of sexuality in relationships.

The points brought up at first glace seem almost asexual to most people's(mainly misguided) perceptions, but that's just an overreaction to the fact that everything in today's society is so hyper-sexualized, and so something without that sex is seen as oddly lacking in sex(even when it was never supposed to have sex in the first place, hence the perceived asexuality). The original three articles are all short and to-the-point and very well enunciated. So what are you still doing reading my measly words? gogogogogo!

Someone gifted my 6 months of paid time over here, and I plan on putting it to very good use. I also figured I'd make it clear for everyone on my flist who crossposts; if there's a post on DW, that's where I'm commenting/interacting. It's just easier for me, since I read my DW list first and go through it first nowadays.

Sherlock was amazing, my gosh. I'm sure everyone who's seen it knows, and to everyone who hasn't...why haven't you? It's one of the best, smartest shows out there!
Now I have to wait to find a copy I can cap...:D

Also, forwarding this on, since [personal profile] donna_c_punk posted it on hers. A Study in Motherfucking Scarlet. Because it's a hilarious reworking of the first book.

Best summary of what's happened with LJ and what you can do about it. For those who haven't already sussed out what is happening or what you can do, this explains quickly what's up.

For everyone who does know what's up, there's some interesting options to consider, if you haven't already taken action. It functions well as a masterpost, too.

Eventually I will post about other stuff. Eventually. Maybe when shows come back next year. I'm all caught up on my flist, though, so there's that! And apparently me and the brother are going to go see Sherlock Holmes tomorrow or Sunday. *shrugs* We'll see.

The internet can at the very least try and fix things. For those who are interested, there's a stylish script that tries to help clean up the gradients and stuff for the new LJ, if anyone's interested (it's not perfect, but I like the way it works, so I'm using it on top of the rest of my LJ scripts);
http://userstyles.org/styles/58266/livejournal-flat-colors

I also highly recommend this other script, because it's pretty awesome for LJ.;
http://userstyles.org/styles/25941/livejournal-modern-customizable

And if you don't have stylish, I am judging you, it's an awesome FF(and Chrome!) add-on that lets you customize any page with CSS and HTML. Works really nice with LJ, YT, Tumblr, FB(which I don't use, but I guess some do), and Google. And there are lots that can help darkify your browser, which is useful if you're like me and you do a lot of browsing when the light's not the best.

Because I'm a horrible angst/pain/woe-they-are-broken lover(hell, I wouldn't be watching SPN if I didn't I guess?), I actually check out the tags for such at [community profile] spnstoryfinders. And somehow I stumbled across the Suite!verse by leonidaslion. Holy shit, that stuff is fucking brutal. I really need to stop getting so attached to fictional characters in a very fictional world, because that hurts. Literally.
Arg.

Seriously, if you haven't read it...don't. Because it's written perfectly and the characters are still themselves at the core and the story is twisty and intriguing and it pulls you in and never lets you go...but unless you like everything broken for long periods of time, a completely evil Sam who has no qualms doing whatever he likes, a broken and pretty near-unrecognizable Dean, a world that's been fucked to hell, explicitness(in every way you'd imagine), and buckets of general hard-core angst, avoid it.

If you have read it...commiserate with me? It doesn't help that I mainlined 200k of it in two days and then went back for the rest. Dear lord, I can be crazy sometimes.

As a consolation, feed me happy fluffity marshmellows of happiness? I'm gonna go watch the copy of Elf my brother recorded for me in an attempt to feel better.

In other news, I'm fiddling with DW and seeing if I can get the icons to sync up even a little bit. Fingers crossed.

Oh! Mission Impossible. In short, it was awesome. In long, it was pretty damn awesome. It wasn't as gory as he last one, but it didn't lose any of the action for it. The plot wasn't incredibly complicated, it just had a lot of points to it, which I like in a good action movie. They did a good job with the grooming Jeremy Renner bit too, as Tom Cruise is finally showing his age and Ethan Hunt is finally feeling pretty friggin world-weary. His character got backstory and motive and it was pretty good. Brad Bird did an amazing job with the directing, and I expected no less from him. It was clearly his own style, and I liked that.
Basically, go, see it. Jane's character has a few issues to deal with, but, in the end, to me, that's par for the course. I'd say this one's the best since the original; possibly even better than that. The mission actually felt impossible for the first time since the first movie, that's for sure.

I guess I should go and work on my erasure and maybe some of my HAS program...aw, shit. Looks like my enter key isn't working. UGH.
majorshipper: (♂ a day to remember you by)
So, I should know better than to a) get attached to minor characters who die and b) go in search of fic about those characters. Because they will hurt my heart even more. See the two fics below about one Gwen Campbell;

Fate, Tall, Delayed by [livejournal.com profile] animus_wyrmis
Gwen is a Campbell, first and always.
Ugh, Gweeeeeen. Basically a story of how everything that touches hunting crashes and burns and dies in a horrible fiery way. And a fantastic look at life outside of the Winchesters, outside of their own insulated battle for the world, a look at what it's like to fight for the everyman and lose and lose people and move on and lose faith. So pretty, but also heartbreaking. OH HEY, SHOW, WHY IS GWEN DEAD? WHY DID YOU GIVE US THIS FANTASTIC CAMPBELL CONNECTION AND THEN KILL THEM ALL!?

Brass Ceiling by [livejournal.com profile] kalliel
Hunting is the difference between skipping town because the rent's overdue and skipping town because there's a werewolf two states over. It's the difference between being a murderer and being a big damn hero. Gwen and hers have got it coming, and there is no getting out--only strapping in.
Outsider POV, the things you do to me. And outsider POV of hunting? EVEN MORE FANTASTIC. A little tough to get into, but once you're in, it's like you're sucked in (hm, much like hunting, no?) and the story is going places with or without you. Another fantastic look at life outside the Winchester's very isolated POV, what it's like to be a normal hunter. And what it's like to have your own issues and your own problems that brought you where you are. And what it's like to tell a story without saying anything much at all.
Basically, ALL MY HEARTS IN MY EYES.

You want even more drama? LISTEN TO THIS WHILE READING! It's all mournful and violiny and it owns my soul. Star Wars and string instruments and I would listen to VSQ for FOREVER.

[livejournal.com profile] proverbsun, you're the first person I thought of when this came on. :D

So I was going through my bookmarks looking for something to make me feel better about the mess that was friday's episode and the horrible characterizations and just something fluffy in general, when I stumbled onto this one;

Your Apple Pie Suburban Hell Happily Ever After (7676 words) by favicontuesday
Fandom: Supernatural
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Castiel/Dean Winchester, Becky Rosen/Chuck Shurley, Lucifer/Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester/Lisa Braeden
Characters: Dean Winchester, Becky Rosen, Castiel, Sam Winchester, Chuck Shurley, Lisa Braeden, Bobby Singer, Lucifer (Supernatural), Michael (Supernatural)
Summary: In which Becky and Dean search for Chuck and Sam, Castiel discovers a love of milkshakes, Sam regrets being a good Samaritan, and Lucifer is still entirely too interested in Sam's body for Sam's peace of mind.

IT IS LIKE THE BEST AU OF S6/7 EVER. And parts of it are so echo-y of S7, even though this was written long before S7 and even S6. Aaaannnyways. In case anyone else is in need of a good fix-it style fic.
