I want to write meta on Shawn's relationships and why he's the way he is with Juliet and all his relationships in general.
My brain. Why. All the metaness.

Basically, it breaks down, in an interesting way, why Dean behaves the way he does to Sam, and, because that's kinda the point of the post, Cas. It's about homophobia in SPN, and why Dean/Cas will never be explorable because of the way the characters are, but, it includes some pretty spot-on stuff about Dean's character in the midst of that, and how he is who he is because of his relationships with John and Sam.

Something that the OP's reply made me think of; Evil!Cas, or the idea of Cas, the once-righteous angel, turning bad, or doing the wrong things for the right things. It's no secret that I adore twists that reveal my favorite characters to be in fact bad guys, or when a good guy goes bad. I was excited during the first mid-season finale of White Collar at the prospect that final scene brought up(you know the one; hotel room, Kate, and the ring). I was excited during the last episode of Sherlock's first season when Sherlock first sees John at the pool. The very first time I watched my first SPN episode, Lucifer Rising, when I saw one of the main characters, a good guy, or so I assumed from what I'd seen of fandom, when I saw Sam torture the demon and then kill Lilith, effectively going darkside, I thought, Wow, that's brave. That's exciting.. I was excited at the end of Mommy Dearest when we discovered what was going on. It may be a kink of mine. Check that, it probably is. But the fact is, I love it. I love it when good guys go bad, especially if they do the wrong things for the right reasons, if the road they take is the good-intentions path to hell. Which is why, even though my heart was breaking into a million little pieces on the floor, I was actually really excited during the latter half of S6 and 701.
And, I want to know where these stories are. Are writers too afraid to actually take their characters darkside and let them stay there? It's a bold more, it's hard to do, and it does alienate fanbase sometimes, but I think it's one of the coolest things I've seen. They don't even have to make the character permanently bad! They can include a redemption arc, 'cause those are awesome too. But, think about it. How often does that happen? I know it happened in Buffy at some point, right? I only know because I actually considered watching Buffy when I found out But where else does it happen? SPN? Kinda? It's a trope that I don't find enough, be it in shows or in fanfic. And that makes me sad, actually.
EVEN MY MUSIC IS RELEVANT, OMG. Seeing as Walk Away is about the speaker telling his girl to walk away because he's dangerous and will never let her get away from him if she stays, because he's found himself in a bad place. analyzed

But now that I'm inspired on the subject, I'm totally gonna go write that next-gen fic I have promised [livejournal.com profile] lunasky3.

ALSO I JUST REALIZED I STILL HAVE NOT SEEN THE DOCTOR WHO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL. And. I'm not too bothered. I guess I'll have to watch it at some point, though.

So, got up off my rear and watched Elf. So many hearts in my eyes. I think I know why everyone loves it so much. It' just so...squishable! Squishy! /wanders into Nemo
Also, apparently [personal profile] lunasky3 and I have determined there needs to be an SPN/Elf fusion with Cas as Buddy and Heaven as the North Pole.

Stargate's on TV now, and oh, S1 SGA, I have missed you muchly. Remember when Teyla was kickass and had long pink hair and fought a Wraith with nothing but a giant stick?
Yeah. You may have lost it amongst the later seasons.

Which reminds me of something I realized a long time ago. I think I've figured out why John/Elizabeth was always more popular in (the het side of) fandom than anything else, by miles. It's pretty much known by everyone that you automatically pick out your two favorite characters and start shipping them. That's kinda the way fans work. I always wondered why Sparky had such a large part of fandom, while the number of people who frequented the Jeyla thread were few but loyal. Admittedly, I didn't really start participating in fandom 'till the show was in the third season, so I don't know how it was in the beginning, before Elizabeth became a saint (which takes me on another tangent; why was it that everyone seemed to either love Elizabeth and hate Teyla or love Teyla and hate Elizabeth? I always thought they were both awesome and kickass in their own ways...). But when I was in fandom, I always got the feeling that Teyla was the least-favorite regular character in the show. I can forgive them for thinking that with the sad writing she got later on, but in the beginning, she was awesome. Anyways, the point is, I always thought that Elizabeth was miles more popular than Teyla, which is why the more canon ship(John/Teyla) was less popular than the kinda unrealistic(from a canon fulfillment point of view) ship(John/Elizabeth). I won't get into fandom's reasons for not liking Teyla, though I can guess at them (in a fandom compromised of largely slashers, Teyla was the main female threat to the OTP...Teyla was a kickass(physically in addition to mentally) strong female...you get the picture. Why are women so hated in SPN?).
I don't know. For the, like, three of you who have any familiarity with SGA fandom, what were/are your thoughts?

In the interest of full disclosure, I've always been a John/Teyla shipper. Never genuinely got John/Elizabeth, to be honest. John/Teyla was the only thing that ever made sense in canon and out of it. *shrugs*

Also, this kinda turned into a rantish thing. Why does everything turn into that?

I was going to write fic about Sam. Somehow I ended up writing meta for Sam...and then Dean, and then their relationship and a dash of Cas tossed in there too.
Don't ask me how or why.

here there be spoilers up to 708 )
