majorshipper: (Ω jack o'neill with two 'l's)
The cut is done. I mostly got rid of people who haven't updated in years/I haven't talked to since I friended. If, by chance, you're still around and haven't abandoned LJ completely, I'd be happy to friend you back! I also cut people I didn't think would follow me to my new journal when the time comes.

You can see if you were cut by clicking here; if you see it, you weren't.
As always, if you want back on, just drop me a comment and let me know. And if you want to drop me for any reason, that's cool too.

Also, I updated my friends-only post to indicate that I'm back from hiatus and not looking for new friends. Oh, the things you'll accomplish when you're putting off trig homework!

I've decided to just let my tags go to hell 'till I move. It's not gonna be that much longer anyway, and I really cba to go back and tag everything.

I need to start updating with DW.

All U.S. Internet Providers will be policing downloads by July 12, 2012
Seriously. WHAT THE FLYING FUCK WORLD.

"File-sharers, beware: By July 12, major US Internet service providers (ISPs) will voluntarily begin serving as copyright police for the entertainment industry, according to Cary Sherman, chief executive of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

How are you guys? What's been going on around here lately? ♥ My life's been pretty crazy, which accounts for me being pretty AWOL around here. I still try to frequent my baby, [livejournal.com profile] spn_party, but there's only so many hours in the day. Right now, I'm stressing about testing this week, finals coming soon, and taking a plane trig class and getting a job over the summer. On the positive front, I needed a good guilty pleasure to laugh at, so I started The Vampire Diaries. Don't judge, pretty people are funny when they ~angst~. It's nice and light and cutesy and way funnier than actual comedy. So, yeah. Not too much going on, though.

Oh, and I changed my layout, [livejournal.com profile] sgmajorshipper, and got a new default. I like my R2D2 icon, but this one's so pretty...idk, I might go back. Still trying to decide that.

Last edit! Promise. Made some new friends, so welcome, guys. Like you know, I'm usually actually active. I'm just going through lots of RL stuff right now, so I'm on hiatus, pretty much.

First of all, oh my gosh, the sheer outpouring of love last time was just...wow. You guys ♥ I don't even know how to explain how good it made me feel. Really good is just the tip if the iceberg.

I'd hoped to be back by the weekend, but, um, well, The Hunger Games kinda screwed that all up for me. We went and saw it on Friday because I'm impatient and I hate to wait, and, well, I may have kinda sorta fallen in love with it. Which would explain why I saw it again Saturday and then spent literally all of Sunday evening/night/morning reading the trilogy(apparently sunrises ARE pretty when you're sleep deprived...XD). *facepalm*
(I liked it, ftmp, in case anyone is wondering. I have lots of ~thoughts~ about the books(and the movie), but I'll save those for another day)

Anyways, the point of this post is basically to say that a) I'm doing better. I won't say magically much better, but better. It's an upswing I hope I can hold onto. And b) I'm not sure when I'll be back. Don't worry too much; I'm better, but I really feel like I need to take a break and really straighten some stuff out before I jump back in again.

*massive hugs* So, I'll see y'all when I see you. :)

*For the purpose of this discussion, someone who enjoys any kind of relationship, het, slash, OT3, OT4, whatever, is a shipper, since shipping comes from (relation)shipping, a non-gender-defined term
Also, for this discussion, we'll ignore my reasons/motivation for slashing vs het shipping

So, I was thinking earlier about how people define shipping or pairings you ship. Namely, how do you define what you ship? The context I started considering it was when I was considering Sam/Dean and Dean/Cas. I was reading Sam/Dean fic, which isn't OOC for me at all. I read S/D slash, I'll notice/comment on particularly slashy scenes in episodes, I'd probably make S/D graphics if I was so inspired. And yet, I don't consider myself a Sam/Dean shipper. I don't talk about it to the degree I talk about D/C(as I'm sure my flist has noticed). On the opposite side of the coin, I'll read Dean/Cas, I'll comment on Dean/Cas scenes, I'll do Dean/Cas graphics. I consider myself a Dean/Cas shipper. Ditto with Sam/Cas. I do the same actions for all three pairings, and yet I don't actively consider myself a Sam/Dean shipper. Is that because I don't hang out with other S/D shippers? Is it because of the stereotypes and stigma attached with shipping S/D that I don't want to fit into? Is it because I've never(so far) felt the urge to make S/D graphics? Of course, there are other minor (slash and het) pairings that I'll read the fics for and comment on scenes in SPN, yet some I do say I ship (Dean/Lisa, Cas/Meg, Michael/Lucifer), and others I don't (Sam/Gabriel most notably).

I considered that it's just because I like Dean/Cas more than Sam/Dean, which, yeah, okay, fits, but on a scale, I ship Sam/Cas less than Sam/Dean, so if it's for that reason, why do I consider myself a Sam/Cas shipper? Is it just because Sassy is so cracky, where S/D is comparatively serious?

I've had similar issues with het shipping, though I haven't really thought about it since then. In Stargate, I enjoyed reading Daniel/Janet fics and Daniel/Janet scenes, and yet I've never really considered myself a Daniel/Janet shipper. In Doctor Who, I'll read and maybe even one day write Amy/Rory fic and I enjoy their scenes a lot, and yet I don't classify myself as a proper Amy/Rory shipper.

I don't know why that happens. I don't think it's shame, because I've never been afraid to cop to shipping unpopular/controversial pairings(hello, SGA!), and in SPN, there really isn't any shame to be found anywhere. In fact, I'm known for shipping any two things that breathe (and even things that don't *coughDean/Impalacough*), which also takes out the possibility that I only ship "canony" things. I can't tell if it's a combination of intensity of emotions + ~special circumstances, or what. Maybe I'm just confusing. XD

SO. The point of all that was to maybe try and make some sense of it. But I'm curious about you guys. Are there pairings you ship but don't actually consider yourself as a shipper? Or am I all alone out here?

ETA: Just to make a point(not sure what point it is, though), I find myself currently reading a fic that has past tumbleweed!Sam/agave plant!Jo resulting in mpreg, and to top it off, it's NOT crack. wat.
majorshipper: (♂ a day to remember you by)
Firstly, let me get this out of the way: I haven't read the books. I've considered it, and I do want to, in the same way I would like to read A Song Of Fire And Ice. I probably will, at some point when I'm less invested in fandom and have more time. Maybe over the summer or something.
That being said, I'm really, really looking forward to the movie. It looks awesome. I adore dysotopia and I like the social aspect. The historian/anthropologist in my likes to see if there are actual thought-out ways that we could return to out-and-out gladiatorial spectacles.
Also, kids being badass and people shooting bows is usually enough for me anyways.

This vid has been getting me ridic excited. I only wish there was some way to see the midnight showing and then not have to miss SPN. I'm trying to not think about the fact that I'll have to wait 'till Sunday to actually go see it.
(The vid has bits and pieces from trailers and clips: the maker says it's spoilery, but if you know the basic background of the movie and have seen all the trailers like me, you're fine)

In other news, I went out and got three different hair colors: a blonde, an auburn/reddish brown, and a soft black. We shall see which looks best. I'm gonna try the blonde one when I get home this afternoon.

Supernatural has (naturally) made it to the second-to-last round over in E!Online's Ultimate Fan Battle, if anyone cares to vote. We're up against Disney.

Okay, so I was rewatching the sneak-peak, and something about it bugged me: Lucifer, to be exact. Remember in episode two how he tried to get Sam to off himself? Remember how he said he wasn't giving up or going anywhere?
So, why does he suddenly seem so sad that Sam's given up? He's mocking him, obviously, but he does sound at least a tiny bit genuine when he says Sam's talk of death is depressing him. So I can't help but wonder if Hallucifer has developed some kind of survival desire? Which would make things doubly twisty, because he's just a subconscious manifestation of Sam's Hell-memories. Also, why wouldn't Hallucifer want Sam to die? Does he think Sam will get into heaven(I think so, but it's more what Sam thinks)? Does he just consider all things Sam-related a game, and if Sam gives up it's no fun anymore?

To be honest, I think what we see of Sam in the preview is pretty bad. Self-harm or not(I can see either situation, but IDK if show would go there considering it's fanbase is young women and they can't really show Sam engaging in self-harm AND saying it's a bad thing you shouldn't do). I think just the fact that Sam, the unrelenting never-give-up Winchester is finally too tired says a lot about his mental state and how it's changed over the past few years(and in S7 most dramatically). I'm usually quite the Dean!girl, as you all know, but I actually identify a lot with Sam's drive and personality(idk how much of it has to do with being raised as the youngest in a family-is-everything enviroment). So it's really interesting to watch him break down and come apart like this. I can't wait for the episode to air so we can analyze what's going on in his head.

TBH, I'm looking forward to that as much as I am Cas' return.

1. Leave a comment to this post!
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Post the names of five fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and your thoughts on each. The characters can be from books, movies, TV shows or video games.

The awesome [personal profile] yappichick/[personal profile] jess_being_me gave me the letter "S".

Stinson, Barney - Yet another example of a character whose personality traits I utterly despise, and yet somehow he's grown on me. Most likely because he's changed quite a bit since S1, due in no small part, I think, to Robin. Anyways. I like him, for the most part. Grudging admiration.

Schiuto, Abby - Lifespiration. Seriously. Abby is pretty much everything I want to be, personality wise. I love that she's always bubbly, always loyal, and is always herself. She's smart and sweet and does what she wants. Don't we all want to be as confident as Abby?

Spencer, Shawn - Cocky and annoying at first, I've definitely grown to love him. Most of the time. Parts of him remind me of my brother(the good parts, mostly), and others remind me of me. The sheer irreverence is something I know I enjoy.

Skywalker, Mara Jade - My bb. My second-favorite Star Wars character after Princess Leia. I mean, check it; she was the Emperor's favored Hand. She swore to kill Luke, and yet eventually turned to the light side (and married him, but that's only marginally related to anything). She was badass and determined and Timothy Zhan knows how to write me my favorite things, so, yeah. There's a reason I have two icons of her. I stopped reading the EU when they killed her off and destroyed Jacen(which is saying a lot, since I read all the post-movies EU novels, including that insane VY storyline).

Singer, Bobby - I have lots of thoughts on Bobby. I like him fine, and I adore Jim, and I miss him (even though that was a powerful send-off)...but I don't love him like some do. I don't like how Show seems to have tried to retcon him as the only person who cared about Sam and Dean. He's become a father of sorts for Dean(and Sam to a lesser extent), but I hate how some episodes seemed to want to make John an evil dirtbag and Bobby as the beleaguered better uncle. Basically, me no likely this steotype thing they keep putting John and Bobby into. Even though I don't care much for pre-series stuff, I still have strong feelings about John and Bobby and how they felt about each other and the boys.

IDK how I feel about this. On one hand, Niall Matter(!) and Sarah Canning in a Canadian version of Primeval. On the other hand, a spin-off of Primeval that isn't likely to mention the original. It could be worse: they could be out-and-out calling it a remake.
